Dol Pictures

Here's a few pictures from the dol. It was a crazy day and I didn't get to eat anything and I am pissed. The food was great from what people tell me and I know the cake was great because it's from my favorite bakery but I didn't even get to taste it. Even with 3 of my friends helping and with A-man, it took forever to decorate and by the time it was done a lot of the guests had showed up. There was a slight issue with setting up the food and that got delayed and as soon as that was ready, I lite the sterno candles for the chafing dishes and one of the dishes caught on fire but not for long, it just smelled a little. So to be safe we just put out all the sterno candles but not before A-man and I burned out hands. There's no scar on my hand but A-man burnt the hell out of one hand.

I had asked the in laws to bring their super high resolution camera because Elle had pretty much destroyed ours and although it takes pictures fine, it's not as nice. But they didn't bring it so I'm really upset that we didn't get great pictures. I really regret not hiring a photographer, I mean why go all out if you have no pictures to remember it by?

Then as the main table centerpiece, I borrowed my friends collector's Hello Kitty dolls and put it in the center as balloon weights and towards the end, I had noticed that this one boy kept playing with it and taking it out of the room and back. So I was completely preoccupied with watching him and making sure they didn't leave with it. Then at the end we collected all the dolls and instead of being 8, there were only 7. I was so worried that someone had taken it so a few of us went around looking for it. We put the 7 dolls on the gift table while we were clearing off the tables and all of a sudden, my cousin came up to me and told me that there was only 6 now. There had been 7 just a few minutes ago so I knew it couldn't have gone far. So I ran down the stairs and heard the elevator open and who comes out from it, holding one of the dolls? My MIL!!!! I'll just leave it at that since A-man reads my blog now.

After we got home, A-man and I went through a few boxes and we found the missing hello kitty so they are all safe and back at home with my friend who generously said from the beginning that it was ok. You're the best J!!!

Most of the time, I was making sure that the balloon guy that I hired didn't go over time because his overtime would have cost me another $100. Yes, one hundred dollars!!!! But people kept requesting balloon animals from him. When he came in, I told people to go request a balloon from him but no one did until the end. So I was following him for about 15 minutes trying to shoo people off him so I wouldn't have to pay extra.

The other time, I was making sure that the main head table pieces wasn't being touched because most of those were rented and I didn't want it to break. So I kept having to keep this little boy off of it. This little boy being A-man's cousins' son, who I can't stand along with that whole side of the family. but his mom was just busy eating (she's about 26 years old and probably tips the scale at around 300) then when I asked her to please keep an eye on her son the second time, I overheard her say "we should go" after I turned my back. Please do leave!! But she came up to me and asked when we were going to do the cake. Of Course! And when I was done serving up all the cake she came up and asked me if she could take a piece home for her son. her son? Her 2 year old son? Yeah fucking right! I told her she could take the pieces that were already cut and plated since there were so many left over but she wanted the uncut part of the cake with flowers on top. I said ok and walked away. The piece she took was about 5 inches square. like 3 times the serving size.

Another thing, MIL was there when we were setting up but all she did was talk the whole time and annoyed my friends and I and she would go see what we were all doing, touch one thing or something and move on. I had to have A-man make her leave. But do you know what she said to my friend afterwards? "I can't believe the 4 of us decorated this whole place". HA!!! Again, I can't say what I want cuz A-man reads this blog. Sorry hubs, I love you but I wish they moved to Montana with your sister.

All in all, everyone told me that they had a great time. That the food was fantastic, the decor, amazing, and they loved the amazing animals that the balloon guy made. So as a hostess, I am very happy that it turned out ok. Plus the birthday girl couldn't have been any greater. She was happy the whole time, she let anyone hold her, she walked on her own very well, and didn't even let out one little scream. All that from a baby that didn't get her afternoon nap nor was able to nurse because of the commotion. I'm telling you, she loves being social and I just dont' know where she gets it.

Besides not being able to eat anything at the party, we had PLENTY of left overs but my mom had packed it up and gave it to all her friends. She said that she had left a lot and I know that there was left over cake but either someone took it or it got tossed in the garbage. Oh, I just can't think about it anymore. It breaks my heart.

Oh, here's the pictures.

You did a great job!!!

I could have wrote a lot of that post myself, if that makes you feel any better. Actually, the only comfort I take is I'm kind of glad we paid for the decorators because luckily we were able to just show up to the party and I see that was pretty stressful! But it looks like you did a great job!!! I am so sad that the day was a blur too...I just remember running around like crazy and having half-conversations with everyone. But don't worry, every day little pieces will come back to you and in no time you will only remember how fun the guessing game was and how much everyone loved the balloon guy!

Oh, and how absolutely adorable your birthday girl was!

Your daughter = the cutest thing ever!!!!

I love the traditional dress! I hate big parties for just that reason...too much work and too little time to spend with my guests.

MIL...errr...ummmm...words defeat me.
