Remember when I said that I wanted to be a stay at home mom and sell my business? Well, my husband has other plans. Instead of selling off the store and letting me have another baby before my eggs dry up, he wants to EXTEND our business. We own a dry cleaner but it's just a drop off which means that we don't do any of the cleaning on premises. There are two separate types of "dry cleaning", the actual dry cleaning items like silks and wools but there's also the cotton dress shirts which get laundered. Anyways, the store front immediately adjacent to our store is available for rent so he wants to rent that space and start our own shirt laundering plant. About half of our business is from the dress shirts but it's one of those virtually no profit things that we do for our customers since the other half of their wardrobe is for dry cleaning and that's where we make a profit from.
My husband who has never washed or pressed a shirt in his life, wants to open a shirt laundering plant where he will be responsible for washing at least a THOUSAND shirts a week and if we did want to make some profit, we'd have to pick up another wholesale account from one of two other dry cleaners.
Does that sound ridiculous of what? Plus, our life right now is pretty awesome, he gets to nap EVERYDAY and work only 4 hours a day and although we don't have a luxurious life, we're not struggling and isn't that what most people want out of life.
I kept reminding him that the reason I wanted to sell the business in the first place was so I can have another baby and stay at home. But if we do this I'll HAVE TO WORK full time cuz he can't run both things. He can barely get more than one thing (anything) done in a day. I keep telling him that he'll have to work all day, get no nap, no family time, and no vacation days!! But he's so excited about it. I'm kinda happy that he is FINALLY showing some ambition in his life but damn it, why now?
I'm usually the one with all the plans and ambition but I'm finally at a point where I'm really happy with my life and I just want to enjoy it with my baby and not have 10 things going on at once.
If we do start this, it will be good for our business in every way. It'll help us save more money and my eggs will probably be good for a couple of years at least. :)
Oh and another thing, a big major thing, we'll be doing it with my parents!!!!!!
My KOREAN parents, which if you read my post a few days back about korean moms, well, that's a whole lot of problems right there. But it costs alot for all the machinery and they are in the position to help us and they just sold their business and were thinking of doing something else anyways. So it's actually perfect for them.
I am a little, tiny bit excited myself. I've always wanted to do more and more so if if wasn't for having Elle, I'd be all over this. But my priority is Elle and spending time with her and not having more money.
We'll see how this all pans out. We should have an answer about the lease negotiation in a week or so.

Wow. Just wow. I hope you guys are able to figure out what is best for you! It WOULD be cool. But I totally understand the priorities thing. I'd much rather cinch the belt a little tighter and be a SAHM than have all kinds of money and have to work full time. But it's hard to resist a new challenge! Good luck, hun. I know it will work out for you the way it is meant to!
I have to say that I really respect A Man for having something "new" on his horizon. That, that is the kind of person that you want to be with. Not someone who is content with the dull and ordinary. I once dated someone like that, who was content in their ordinary life, and I found that I myself couldn't be content. With my hubby, I am thrilled that he always has something new on the horizon. A new idea, something fresh, something that will benefit us as a family and couple.
Good luck in your endeavors!
Andria, I totally agree. A-man is always trying to do something bigger and better but obviously cleaning isn't one of his dreams. He is actually working on a dream business which will just take much longer and this plan is relatively a sure thing to make money and I'm really proud of him for doing it.
