I'm hooked

I've been utterly fascinated by the art of bento making and been following this blog since my friend created it. How freaking talented is she?!!! I've never made one nor have the time but I have about 5 years until Elle starts school to get good at it. That should be just about enough time for me to practice, ha! So while I was at H-mart yesterday I bought these things to start it off. They had bento boxes but I decided to stay far away from them because with my addictive personality, I'll have a kitchen full before I even need 'em. Kia, I think you've created a monster here. hee hee.

These are rice shapers. I took a picture just before Elle snatched one up. Looks pretty easy to use and I can make Elle some fun things to eat with her hand for now with them. I wonder what other things I can put into them. Any suggestions?

I am so inspired! I'm going to practice now too for when NJ is ready for school! My husband saw the bento blog and he is asking for bento box lunches now.

Same here, my husband is in awe and wants them too. Good thing he comes home for lunch.

I always liked getting the onigiri with a simple tuna and mayo filling inside.

Other options for stuffing:

finely chopped kimchi
finely chopped bulgogi or cooked ground beef with bulgogi seasoning
cucumber
any picked vegetable, like takwan
umeboshi
your choice of banchan...mmmmm, banchan bites!

Yay!!!!! **jumping up & down, clapping** I'm so glad youre joining the bento cult..err club!! Just kidding. I cant wait to see everything you create. You are so creative by nature so this should be a great new medium for you:)

I love mix-in for the rice...different furikake, or even masago (orange fish roe that you sometimes put on bibimbop) is yummy!

I'm going to have to look up what furikake is, I should know it by now from reading your blog, KP, but I've always been too lazy to look it up.
I'm really excited as well. Although, those little fingers took one of them and hid them somewhere. Oh well, I'll practice with one for now.
Oooh, I could use polenta, couldn't I? This will be fun..

I have ones shaped like bears that I bought from Mitsuwa a long time ago. Of course I never used them. You can use them as jello molds also. :)
